Fungi are one of the most commonly occurring organisms in the world. One can hope to see fungi just about anywhere in the world. This makes it fungi some very important organisms. As fungi lack chlorophyll, they absorb their food from some other medium. While some fungi grow on dead and decaying organic matter, not all the fungi are saprophytic. A few of them grow even on the living organisms. This leads of fungal diseases. There are many fungal diseases that are spread in the world. One should be careful as the disease might spread if proper care is not taken of that person.

Athlete’s foot is one of the many diseases that are spread by fungi. As the name suggests, this disease occurs on the feet of people. The fungus that is responsible for the spread of this disease is called as Trichophyton. This disease occurs when the feet or any other area of a person stay most, warm or even irritated. In the presence of any such favorable conditions, the fungus thrives and begins to infect the upper layer (epidermis) of the skin. The infection by this fungus can occur anywhere on the body such as the scalp, trunk, hands, feet, extremities (legs and arms), groin, feet or some other area.

The foot of the athlete is also known as tinea pedis and this is caused by ringworm fungus. This fungus is found in various locations such as locker rooms, gym floors, nail salons, swimming pools and also in clothing and socks. The fungus gets spread directly even by contacting the objects or by one person to another. However, if the conditions such as warm and moist environment are not available, then they do not infect the skin. However, athletes’ foot is always found sometime in the life. Athlete’s foot affects anyone and has no restriction to players or people participating in physical exercise.

The athlete foot symptoms comprise of itching, dry skin, redness of feet and burning. These symptoms are apparent between the toes and it may lead to peeing, blistering, bleeding and cracking of skin. The affected area appears wet on the surface. This infection affects the feet soles and the toenails. The skin becomes vulnerable to bacteria especially you can find this common in people suffering with diabetes and elderly people. This fungus can make your feet itchy and cause sores in all the toe areas. The skin becomes flaky and scaly. It also turns the color of your nails and makes the nails brittle. Keeping your feet wet after a bath also is one of the reasons to develop such cracks on the soles of your feet. Clean your feet with water and soap and ensure that you clear all the dead skin cells.
